ABSTRACT

Research in order to know food habit and growth pattern of Ambassis urotaenia or “sepengkah” was conducted from November to December 2007. Samples of 45 fish were collected by gillnets from Musi estuary, directly weighing and measure of its total length. Fish guts were cut out and preserve in Formalin 10 % solution for analysis of composition and frequency of feed items. The result shows that Ambasis urotaenia has Length- weight relationships as an equation of W = 0.7978 L 1.2456 and the feed has a composition of shrimp, worm, plankton, small fish, and unidentified organisms.

Keywords : Ambasis urotaenia, length-weight relationship, gut content.
